Dizzying news

The past week has been record-breaking in my stay here north of the border, in terms of news reports that veer just as far away as one can get from the mundane front page articles on neighbours complaining about a military wife’s failure to keep her lawn clipped to their standards.  This week we have the Nova Scotian Nobel Prize winner, the Nova Scotian Bishop scandal, the Canadian breakthrough in breast cancer DNA sequencing and the rural standoff between the rowdy ATV enthusiasts and the naked man with a shotgun into whose yard they trespassed noisily.  In short, something for everyone:  glory, infamy, success and twisting justice.

In kindness, the local news continues to carry and broadcast smaller, homier stories about jaywalkers and lost dogs. Those paragraphs allow one to catch one’s news snorting breath.
