The ostrich has landed

It was a beautiful day for flying–the rain in NYC’s morning had cleared to skies as blue, by afternoon, as those I’d left in Halifax.  And a good day for the long, flat walk along Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue from Michael’s coop, between Riverside Drive and St John the Divine, to the theater district…just in time for supper with a happily and beautifully pregnant friend. It’s good to be back on terra firma, where, in addition to the hurl and burl, the flowers are cheap and mothers and fathers with little ones actually converse with them (and each other) instead of keeping their ears parked to the phone.

Later, back at Michael’s, we made a quick cycle through subjects that wouldn’t get strung together in a Halifax half-hour:  The Journal of Academic Religion, white tie vs Highland dress for Fred’s Glamis Castle ball, the vagaries of shrinking Barnard library administration staff, how to cook spinach and squash stew.

On the other hand, locating wifi in Halifax takes half a minute and here it’s taken me half a day. Which means I have to walk a whole lot around Manhattan.  Ah, gee, what a shame!
