Graphic gems

I recently finished reading Hill & Wang’s soon-to-be-available The Beats: A Graphic History, and find that it clings to me like sunlight on a summer afternoon. Here’s a sequential art project where information is loaded into both image and text and the subject matter is flexible and strong enough to hold biographies, literary criticism, social history, political polemics and aesthetic balance.

And then this morning I finally stumbled across cartoonist Izhar Cohen.  How could I have remained in ignorance of his hysterically witty book-centric cartoons???? Here’s a sample:
